About Us
We are a group interested in the history of the Dayman family in Canada. Most of us are either descendants of Humphrey and Kezia Dayman, or we have a direct family connection.
This website is a place where we collect and publish information and stories relating to family history. The original idea to build a website for this purpose came from email discussions between Terry Lee, Doug Longman, Bill Silversides, Karla Del Grande, Jayson Dayman and other members of the family. The website was launched in 2012. Over the years we have been busy adding photos, publishing maps, scanning information from various paper documents, and generally building out the pages.
A Note About Security and Privacy
If this is your first encounter with our website you might be wondering about security and privacy. Maybe you are considering whether you want to sign up as a member here, but you're not sure who is collecting your information!
This website is a bit different than some of the other family history websites on the web. You might be familiar with Ancestry.ca or MyHeritage.com. Those websites are run as commercial enterprises and while they work very well, they aren't the kind of solution we were looking for. Rather than upload our data and stories to a corporate website where we have no real control of privacy, we decided to build a website of our very own. We control who has access to the information. We (members of the extended Dayman family) own the data and we own the MyFamilyRoots.ca domain. We control who has access to our information. As an example - if you browse to our Family Tree on this website without logging in you will notice that you can navigate to view descendants of Humphrey and Kezia Dayman. But as you go down through the generations you will begin to see records that are listed as "Living". If you click on one of those "Living" records you will see a page that says "No further details are known". This happens because we have chosen not to reveal names or other information for people who are still alive.
As owners of this domain and website we can assure you that your personal information is protected, and it will not be sold or provided to any outside party.
Contributing to the Project
We welcome any family members to join our website by creating an account. (Just go to the Member Login form on our Home Page and click "Sign Up".) There is no cost for membership. None. Nada. Zero cost - honest!
But once you are logged in to our website you will probably see very quickly where your contribution is needed. We need help to keep our family tree updated! We need photos! We would love to have your family stories!
For any questions or contributions that you might have, we welcome your feedback. Just send a quick email to Jayson (
